Natural summer cycle: Work-Holidays-Work

Sometimes I apologize for not finding time to blog when I have a lot of work. This time, I don’t have that excuse because I was on HOLIDAYS, and although it was not my intention, I've taken vacations from everything. It seems that I needed.

Well, actually that is not entirely true. First, because I haven’t been all the time on vacation. Before that, I was in the Conference IAPSO: North Atlantic and Climate Change, about which I told you in the previous post and I left you a link to my presentation on Facebook. In case anyone missed it, here you have it again. A pair of things about the Conference (not everything was good this time) before to move onto those things that can interest you from my holidays.

The worst thing about the conference was that spaces such as corridors, lounges or coffee and poster areas were too large and didn’t give rise to interact with people. The photos give you an idea of that, don't they? In fact, I didn’t meet anyone who I didn’t know already before and that is not a good thing about a conference. The best thing was that my work was well received, and people gave me very good feedback. So, the next step, now that I’m back from holidays, is to transform the content of the work in an article. I know that most of you who follow the blog don’t work in science but if someone does, I admit that this is a kind of trick for me. Usually, before I start writing an article, I present at least among my working group or in a conference, as in this case, which I pretend to include in the article. People always make good comments on points that you haven’t considered, or that aren’t needed, and so the review will not catch you off guard. Perhaps someone wants to try 'this trick' too.

Fig. 3.
A little bit of publicity from my hometown, Santander, in northern Spain. It's beautiful, isn’t it? If you like to alternate beaches and mountains, good food, and do not like crowds, you should consider coming in your next holidays.

Then, my holidays started, but I confess that I didn't entirely work offline because, in mid-July, the article ‘Increasing amounts of Arctic Ocean deep waters in the Greenland Sea’ that I sent to GRL to was accepted (YIPPEE, YIPPEE, YIPPEE!!) and I was expecting to receive the proofs of the article. So, during the holidays, I crossed mails with GRL to not delay the publication. It’s already on-line and you can download the complete text. Soooo, don’t forget to click here.

I've also spent some time reading a friend's article in which I collaborate, but without stress as you see in the picture. If you ask me, definitely the best site to read an article is the beach!

The rest of the time I've done the other things I love to do and that are not Science in my life. Go to eat at the beach, after a bath is the best thing ever; advantage for exercise (Perhaps I’m rare but I like it); going to the cinema with Sergio (my husband), in Germany we don’t go because films are in German; and spending time with my family and friends, the rest of the year living in Bremerhaven I cannot.

See you soon. How were your holidays and back to work?
